Big Tide Brewing Company – Check it out!
Last week, I stopped in to check out Saint John’s newest (and only brew pub) – the Big Tide Brewing Company!
It’s conveniently located on Princess Street across from O’Learys, and the location includes some very big windows that open up on nice days!
Inside, there is plenty of room to hang out. My favorite part is the tables. Many are built to include game boards. I even hear the pieces are available if you want to play a game while you are there!
Most importantly, since it is a brew pub, I had to try some beer.
I sampled the Red and the Pale Ale. Both were excellent – although, I since I quite partial to Reds, I would have to say that it was my favorite. I’m looking forward to sampling a Lager when it’s ready!
Not to forget the menu, which includes a fairly large selection of pub foods. Everything I had was good, and I’m looking forward to trying some of their unique club sandwiches in the future.
Read the following Here article for more information – Raise a glass for Saint John’s new brewpub.
Most importantly – check it out.
Support this new local business, and let me know what you think!
Update: They now have a website! Check it out here: http://www.bigtidebrew.com

I dropped in last week for a couple of beer and an appetizer. Reminds me a lot of Tapps, before Tapps fell into a sinkhole and died, of course!
Their Pale Ale reminded me of the IPA from Tapps, and Big Tide even has former Tapps bartender Chris Vail serving it up!
It really is like a cleaner, nicer version of Tapps. I’ve heard that they’ve even got the same brewmaster as Tapps had. The stout there is amazing!
Their stout is by far the best reason for stopping in, it’s amongst the best available in NB.
here are some helpful hints… (i know this is a new restaurant) the beer was nice .. the food was fair .. but it should not take over an hour to get pub food.. the place was freezing..a couple space heaters on cold nights could be plugged in on cold nights.. we shouldnt have to eat with jackets on… also a little decorating could go a long way… the game tables should go.. some simple tablecloths would do wonders.. good luck but wont be back til the temperatures warm up.. cheers
Big Tide is by far my favourite place to go, their food is AWESOME and the beer ROCKS! Every server I have had is very nice, prompt and efficient. Its the only place that I really go to have lunch or dinner and its the only place I really want to go any more. GO BIG TIDE!! : )
I don’t know how St. John got so lucky Try the burger and house salad! Play a game! Laugh in really cool, comfortable, friendly, happy place. I am going again today to meet with friends and be happy! Good Good Good vibrations………..
I joined the stiener club right away as I like to support local resturants, especially brew pubs. The beer is pretty good, though not great. It’s better than the mass produced stuff, but not on the same level as Pumphouse or Picaroon’s.
I was quickly disappointed a few times now in the food. It is basic dishes that are in some cases a little overpriced. I’ve taken latey to going for just beer and if hungry hitting Churchill’s or another place.
My last visit was pretty sad. Never before have I gone to a pub, drank about a third of a glass and left. The beer was flat, and I mean flat. I asked the waitress and she said it was like that all day both for the brew I had and for another. She asked Chris, and he said he didn’t know… it was filtered yesterday. That answer is wrong on so many levels I could only just shake my head. Why continue to server beer all day when you know it is flat? Ever hear of force carb’ing (probably not)?
I doubt I’ll be back soon, nor will I renew my membership in the stiener club.
I really hoped for the best with Big Tide and was ready to be a steady supporter/customer. So disappointing.
Hey there Chris – a voice from your past here and you probably don’t even remember me. I am your second cousin Pamela here in Ontario. Your Mom just emailed me – we are planning an ” oldies ” cousin family reunion and wanted her to come.
Your pub looks and sounds awesome!!! Good to know that someone in the family owns a brewing company. Maybe see you this May as my husband and I plan to be down that way.
Regards to everyone down east.
I was in tonight with my friends for my girlfriend’s birthday, we ordered Growlers and a drink to sit down. Before I got the drink we were told we could not have the Growlers inside and we had to leave. I went to see about getting my money back for the drink that was still not made (after 5 minutes) and was told there were no refunds.
Very unimpressed and would not recommend to anyone!
