Deputy Mayor calls on Premier to fire Abel LeBlanc
Chase calls on the Premier
Stephen Chase, the Deputy Mayor of Saint John, is calling on the Premier to fire Able Leblanc.
This comes after the explosive comments that Able made earlier this week.
Chase says that these comments send the wrong message to industry as the city prepares for large energy projects that are dependent on healthy labour relations. He said labour groups may view the statement, which came from a former top union official, as a call to action.
Chase says that, “Mr. LeBlanc should no longer be a member of the (Liberal) Party”.
“The world is watching Saint John and when business and industry are thinking about investing in this city, and these projects are dependent on healthy workforces, they are hearing about calls of violence. What message is being sent?”
The Premier does nothing
The Premier, doing what he does best, is refusing to listen to the people in Saint John.
Graham said he will not fire LeBlanc because the MLA was elected to do his job in the legislature.
“As premier, I am not given the authority to fire members of the legislative assembly,” Graham said after a caucus meeting in Memramcook.
The premier does not seem to realize that by doing nothing, he is silently supporting the views of Able - views that the vast majority of people in Saint John do not agree with.
Court and Riley to the rescue
Mayor Ivan Court and Pat Riley played down LeBlanc comments, stressing LeBlanc never condoned violence in his remarks.
“The only violence we have ever seen associated with the labour movement has been incited by union-busting firms who have been documented as planting thugs who try to incite violence,” Riley said, adding that he couldn’t recall any such events in the province (be sure to re-read the last part of that sentence).
The mayor said Chase is merely trying to grab headlines in calling for LeBlanc’s job.
I have a differerent view. I belive that Chase is doing this to stand up for the people in Saint John. If we say nothing then we are accepting what Able is saying. He is an embarasment to this city and needs to appologize. More people are speaking out each and every day, and this needs to continue until Able finally resigns.

It would be an awesome first step for Abel to buzz off, but maybe he could give us a bonus and take anyone who shares his views out of this city with him. I, for one, wouldn’t mind the abolition of ILA Local 273, because they exhibit only greed, selfishness, and big egos which say ‘It’s all about us…we’re the gods of the Port Of Saint John…now and forever.’
Please, ILA/Riley/Abel, get over yourselves. We all know that you’re inherently greedy, so why not admit that you’re only in business for yourselves? You’re useless surplus population in this city that doesn’t really contribute to it at all, and therefore YOU ARE NO LONGER NEEDED NOR WANTED IN THIS CITY! Just get out and take anti-change citizens with you, and don’t decide to stick around to try to restore your brand of crap status quo.
I’d also say that applies to the majority of McLaren Blvd. adult residents who also don’t want changes. They’d rather just live out a protracted period of ‘regained youth’ where they just simply drink a lot of alcohol and huff away at buzz-causing smoke than actually do things to make things better in the neighborhood.
Oh, and heaven forbid anyone disturb their status quo, because if they do, there will be terroristic activities to those who look for changes. It’s like ‘The McLaren Blvd. area is only for using once-a-month government help to buy drugs and alcohol with and throw a 24/7 party all the time in all parts of the neighborhood, and those who do so are THE neighborhood power for 100 years or more’.
Please…to those in this city who think in those damaging ways, don’t call Saint John home anymore and just leave. We don’t need you nor want you here anymore. You do severe harm to this city and it’s constituent neighborhoods just by living here. To you, you want to just take-take-take from everybody, live like you are the majority, and make sure no one else but you get nothing back, when, in reality, we no longer care about you, and don’t need to care. Just get out of Saint John. Forever. Stop terrorizing us, stop hurting this city, and just leave.
Abel LeBlanc actually didn’t call for violence. He recommended that any protests should be peaceful. That statement has been lost in this entire mess.
