If you are familiar with the content CBC produces, you will see that they do more than news. The purpose of the homepage is to surface more of the content that the CBC creates. Should you be interested in just News, then goto the News page!

interested in sports:

interested in radio:
cbc.ca/radio

There is in fact, less ads on the new design. The Skyscraper ad has been removed on the news page and replaced with a smaller square one. 

As for Firefox bugs, it works fine for me in Frirfox1.05, Firefox 1.5, Firefox2, IE6, IE7, and Safari. which version do you have?</description>
