Belly’s Go Sens Go!

May 30th, 2007 by Shawn

Ottawa SenatorsI finally checked out this song that everyone keeps talking about. CBC Newsworld just ran a story on it. So here is the lowdown thanks to the Ottawa Citizen:

Belly is a rapper from Ottawa. Ottawa, for those of you who live in a cave, made it to the Stanley cup finals this year. Belly recorded the track, in just one take, at Ottawa’s Capital Prophets studio last week. Since then, Go Sens Go has caused a Sens-ation of its own on Ottawa radio. (I love that line).

“We haven’t had so many requests for anything,” Hot 89.9 station manager Josie Geuer said yesterday. The station first played the track last Thursday, when the Senators faced off against Buffalo in Game 1. The Senators came out with a huge 5-2 victory, and requests for Go Sens Go have been flooding in - sometimes as many as 50 calls per hour - ever since.

The song has been a hit on YouTube, as well, with Sens fans posting videos set to Go Sens Go. The homemade videos don’t bother Belly. “I think it’s great,” he says. “I’m happy that I made an anthem that everybody can be proud of.” Ottawa’s hip-hop hero hopes the song can do more than just whip his home team into a frenzy. “I definitely want to use this to be able to help,” Belly says. For $1.89, the single can be downloaded from the rapper’s website, http://bellylive.com, and all proceeds will go to support Rogers House.

So there you have it. You can listen to a good quality version on his website here. Also, check out some of these videos:

Paint.NET

Paint.NET

I’ve been using Paint.NET for the last few months and, I think it’s about time to mention it here on the site.

I don’t need Photoshop or anything fancy to edit images. I just need more features then Paint has! Paint.NET does everything I need and on the plus side - it’s free! I use it to: resize images, save images to a different format, and to add some effects to images.

I’d encourage you to grab a copy to try out!

Movie Reviews: Spiderman 3 and Shrek the Third

May 26th, 2007 by Shawn

This week I had the chance to see a few movies. Oddly enough they were both the third in a series of movies, and they were both hands-down lacking compared to the first two.

Spiderman 3The first movie I watched was Spiderman 3. I saw this one at the IMAX in Halifax. Before I begin, let me mention that I was expecting a giant screen and insane resolution video; however, it just looked slightly taller and I couldn’t see much difference in the resolution. Anyways, the movie was long and had many pointless scenes. Seriously, I can only watch Peter Parker part his hair on the opposite side and smile at women while walking down the street for so long. Did it have to go on forever? Also, what was with all of the singing? The movie needed to be cut up much more before heading to the theaters. This is the crap they usually save for special features on the DVD!

Here is the good part: the action, when there was action, is pretty cool to watch! There were a few new bad guys that provided some interesting fight scenes, but the endless romance and awful comedy really make these few and far between.

My rating? A bland 2/5. My solution? Cut out the stupid scenes and focus on the action and it’s an easy 3 or 4!

Shrek the ThirdThe next movie I watched was Shrek the Third. I was actually looking forward to seeing this as the first two are pretty well done. The sad part is that this one is not quite up to par with the others. The story is rather bland and many of the jokes just aren’t that funny. That’s not to say there isn’t anything to laugh at - the best part in the movie is when then gingerbread guy has a flashback of his life! But, that was one of the few good jokes. The movie seemed like it was focused on just kids, while the first two had a ton of things that adults would enjoy.

My rating? A solid 3/5. It’s simply an average movie.

Javascript: Example switch statement using a range of values.

May 24th, 2007 by Shawn

Here is a sample snippet which should give a good example of how to use a range of values inside of a javascript switch statement:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
	function GetText(value)
	{
		var result;

		switch (true)
		{
			case (value == 0):
				result = "Equals Zero.";
				break;

			case ((value >= 1) && (value <= 25)):
				result = "Between 1 and 25.";
				break;

			case ((value >= 26) && (value <= 50)):
				result = "Between 26 and 50.";
				break;

			case ((value >= 51) && (value <= 75)):
				result = "Between 51 and 75.";
				break;

			case ((value >= 76) && (value <= 100)):
				result = "Between 76 and 100.";
				break;

			default:
				result = "Not found in the range.";
				break;
		}

		return result;
	}

//-->
</script>

The Littlest Hobo

May 18th, 2007 by Shawn

The Littlest HoboThe Littlest Hobo was a German shepherd from Canada that wandered from town to town, in the early 1980’s, helping those in need. This dog was much better then Lassie. Lassie was only able to bark at people when a child fell into a well. The hobo would actually figure out a way to get the kid out of the well and then fight the commies in the cold war! Here’s a fact: a young Mike Myers was a guest star in one of the episodes!

Today I’d like to list some littlest hobo related items for you to check out. The first thing you need to see is this webpage that lists EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about the show! I mean it.

The Littlest Hobo Theme:

The Littlest Hobo Credits:

Purchase the song from the official website http://hobotheme.com!

Sing along with the lyrics:

There’s a voice,
that keeps on calling me.
Down the road, is where I’ll always be.

Every stop I make, I’ll make a new friend.
Can’t stay for long, just turn around and I’m gone again.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll wanna settle down,
Until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

Down the road, that never seems to end,
where new adventure, lies just around the bend.

So if you wanna join me for a while,
just grab your hat, come travel light,
that’s hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
until tomorrow, the whole world is my home.

So if you wanna join me for a while,
just grab your hat, come travel light,
that’s hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want want to settle down,
until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

There’s a world, that’s waiting to unfold,
a brand new tale, no one has ever told,
we’ve journey’d far but, you know it won’t be long,
we’re almost there and we’ve paid our fare, with the hobo song.

Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
until tomorrow, I’ll just keep moving on.

So if you wanna join me for a while,
just grab your hat, come travel light,
that’s hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll find what I call home,
until tomorrow, you know I’m free to roam.

Pet tiger is euthanized!?!

May 13th, 2007 by Shawn

Wow. Remember that tiger story I wrote about the other day. Well, there has been an update. I just heard on the CBC that the pet tiger who mauled a woman to death earlier this week was euthanized. This was done by a a veterinarian and approved by the owner.

I think they should have put down the idiot owner instead. Honestly, if I was a caged tiger, I’d bite the first person I could!

More from the CBC here.

Woman is mauled to death by pet tiger!

May 12th, 2007 by Shawn

Pet TigerHow is this for a weird story? A man in Bridge Lake, BC actually owns several pet tigers. Not only that, but he encourages people to visit and take pictures. He even has a website! I guess your asking, how could this possible end in a tragedy? Well, on Thursday night, his girlfriend enters the enclosure to pet one of the tigers. The tiger ends up grabbing her leg and then bites her. She ends up bleeding to death as a result of this incident. The worse part is that her two children we outside the enclosure watching the whole time! The kids even had to go and call 911!

So how can he have pet tigers? Well, simply because there are no provincial or federal laws against this. Several large municipalities in BC do have laws against owning exotic animals, but this hasn’t encouraged the provincial or federal government to step in with similar laws.

Pet TigerAnd what happens to the tigers? No word yet, but I honestly can see the government allowing him to keep them after this. The SPCA has been fighting for years to seize the tigers because of their poor living conditions. Marlene Moiarty, of the SPCA, says that “The animals were being horribly cared for. The enclosure they were in was about the size of a small living room, and there were two tigers in that enclosure. We had concerns about animal welfare, but obviously, safety is paramount.”

She also says, “There are so many tigers being kept as pets that there’s not enough room for all of them at zoos, which limits the SPCA’s ability to take action”. I had to read that last sentence a few times. Who the hell owns all of these tigers? If there are so many out there, I’m really surprised something like this hasn’t happened before!
