SuperStu, congrat on your making it work all of a sudden, and I am not saying you making this up. But after reading your steps, it doesn't seems there is any step that we haven't done before (I mean I must have turned off wii holding it 4 sec with conn24 on a thousand time now) And also continuous reformat of the sys mem I tried (that's a while ago before I give up)

So what did you do you think is the crucial step that everyone here is missing? Did you put the wii aside without turning it on for weeks? About SD card, I have it both in or out wii when I am doing all those trials, so I don't see it affecting anything.

Again, I am not trying to challenge you, instead just try to understand what you did that we didn't do, since ur situation before making it work is exactly what happened to most of us here. Thanks!

GUYS THERE'S HOPE FOR YOU YET!! I FIXED MY WII - this could be the answer!! I had the same frustration as Ron and Wesley on my PAL wiikey Wii. I had got to the same stage as them and gave up.

OK today I got it working! must have done this steps above about 15times, so I gave up trying and thought I would just forget about it. So I turned the off (hold power button in for 4secs until red. Note Wii connect 24 was still on when I did this and battery still in the Wii. I hadn't touched my Wii since except for gaming. I note I removed the battery just the other day while fidling around with My II-case which was installed at time of wiikey(I was just switching clear and white parts - i.e clear battery slot cover) Another thing to note is I didn't re-install my Mii's back on to the Wii at any time yet - they were still on the Wiimotes the whole time. Another important thing i feel may have had something to do with it is this whole time i did the aprx 15 reformats - My SD card was OUT of the wii - I had never put it back in at any point previously... until today when it started working!

Anyway today - to get it working amazingly - I firstly put in my 2gig SD card then I turned her on from cold red, and installed my Mii's onto the Mii channel as i'm taking my Wii to a party tonight. I had re-installed all the channels recently and was getting the error messages for everybody votes (not letting me set region) and all the other usual ones (even after v3.0 frimware was installed the same errors I was recieving. Anyway, after installing my Mii's back on I thought oh hell i'll try the everybody votes channel once again. This is where the change began - at the point where it says Select region it still looked bad - I could only click bot right button - So i did that expecting to be routed back to the main menu - but actually it went to a country list where I selected England - then it went back to the votes channel and everything else worked. I thought wow i can't believe that just worked! So i thought ok let's try the weather channel works - OMG it asked me the region i live in and it now works!! News channel works! I will now write clearly the steps you can try - while its all clear in my head - Sorry for the slow progressing story - i'm just trying to visualize what I did again.

PLEASE NOTE even though about 2 weeks had passed, I did follow all the original steps above (with SD card removed!) - so consider following above steps below doing the following:

1. Install firmware v3.0 (just do a system update in the wii menu if you haven't already done so.

2. Make sure you have all the channels installed and that yout wii connect 24 is turned ON

3. Turn off wii by holding button in for 4secs until light goes RED - make sure wiiconnect 24 is still ON when you do this.

4. removed battery for 2mins just to be safe then insert. If you have an SD card please insert it now.

5.Power on Wii and goto the Mii channel - install your Mii's from ur wiimotes.

6.Goto everybody votes channel and at the bit it asks the region it hopefully will ask you your region - again only the bottom right icon (wii settings i think it's called) will be selectable.

7. Hopefully at this point it will allow you to select your country and continue right through and it will work. Next proceed to do the weather channel, then the news channel (will take a while)

OK well i'm not saying this will fix everyone's problem - but this is what I did and it now works perfectly - so I wish you all luck, please post of you managed to get it working after following the original and my steps together..

Thanks

Hi I have the same problem like Ron and Wesley Wong. I found some other pages who describe this Problem, but until now I didn't find any solution. http://psx-scene.com/forums/wiikey/53016-remove-wii-battery-wiiconnect24-fix.html
Any ideas?

Any virtual console games can simply be downloaded again. They keep track of your purchases. Just make sure you do not delete your Wii Shop channel!

AFter following all the steps and I connected to internet, tested connection is ok, and accept the User agreement, and making sure connect24 is ON, Standby connection is ON as indicated above, I am still getting these messages on "Forecast Channel" and "News Channel" --- WiiConect24 is currently turned off. Confirm your settings under Wii options ---

Have anyone encounter this problem? And is there a way to solve it?

I want to report to you that I have the exactly same situation as Ron.

Shop and internet channcel work, but weather and news, give me "please turn on connect24..." but I double check it again, both connect24 and standby is on. It just doesn't detect it. (further detail, for vote channel, i get to the place where you select your region, then cannot go thru. If I click on setting, I will get error code and get kick back to main screen)

I think that the Internet Browser will work regardless of the other issues. Following the steps as listed should reset your Wii enough to let you turn back on Wii Connect 24 then access the News and Weather. Can you confirm that it was turned on in the settings? What error do you see?

Help help. I can't get weather and News Channel to work.

I did exactly what you indicated above. But when I am at the step of "...Now start up the News channel. You should now get your news updates.
Go to the Weather channel...", mine still says "WiiConnection24 is off" although I did turn it on and okked the agreement. (and I do have the internet working. My Wii Shop works fine)

Pleae help if there is something I am missing.

Thank you very much.
